Cargo Operations
Flying freight with Ameriflight gave me a deep appreciation for what it means to operate in an environment where the schedule is unforgiving and the conditions are often anything but ideal. Night departures, tight turnarounds, and routes that took me into smaller fields pushed me to sharpen the fundamentals and stay ahead of the aircraft at every stage of flight.
Part 135 Operations
Part 135 flying taught me things that sim training alone never could. Operating under that regulatory framework — managing dispatch, weather decisions, and go/no-go calls without a co-pilot to share the load — built a kind of self-reliance and situational awareness that I carry into every cockpit I step into today.
Operating in Northern Maine
Being based in Presque Isle puts you about as far from a major hub as you can get in the northeast — and that's exactly what makes it such a formative place to fly. Winter operations up here are no joke; ice, snow, and low visibility are just part of the job, and you learn quickly that thorough preflight planning and a healthy respect for the weather aren't optional. The airports along these routes are small, often uncontrolled, and don't always have the resources you'd find at a larger field, so you develop a self-sufficient mindset fast. There's nobody to hand things off to up here — you own the flight start to finish, and that kind of independence has made me a sharper, more confident pilot.
